The problem

Recreational athletes play thousands of matches that are never recorded. Professional capture rigs are priced for stadiums, not for a Sunday padel court. FieldFlicks needed a platform that could put broadcast-grade cameras on ordinary turfs and courts, let any player activate them from a phone in seconds, stream tournaments live, and return 4K footage, highlights and analytics before the player has left the venue, all at a consumer price point. That required an unusually wide build: physical camera rigs, secure on-site networking, a video pipeline, a mobile app, a partner-facing B2B portal and an admin control plane, engineered as one system.

How we built it

8 decisions
  1. Built a QR-activated capture flow: the player scans the code at the court, picks a session duration and starts recording, with no rentals, no operator and no setup.

  2. Integrated the physical camera rigs with the cloud platform over secure tunnels, so venue hardware stays reachable and controllable without exposing it to the public internet.

  3. Engineered a managed video pipeline for ingest, transcoding, adaptive-bitrate delivery and live tournament streaming, with cloud-delivered recordings after the session.

  4. Delivered FlashClips™: a live buzzer mechanism that lets players mark a moment as it happens; the platform cuts short-form clips around that timestamp instead of forcing anyone to scrub through hours of footage.

  5. Built multi-format export (9:16, 1:1, 16:9) so highlights are ready for reels and social distribution the moment they are generated.

  6. Developed the analytics layer: shot maps, rally and speed metrics, performance trends and peer comparisons, turning recordings into a coaching product rather than just a video archive.

  7. Created the B2B partner portal for turf and court owners to onboard venues, manage camera rigs, view utilisation and track revenue share.

  8. Established a Docker-based automated CI/CD pipeline with an automated testing framework running on the development server, so multi-component releases ship safely.
